When Every Second Counts — A Breakfast Meeting with North West Air Ambulance

We are incredibly lucky to live in a region served by one of the most dedicated and life-saving organisations in the country. Recently, the City of Liverpool Rotary Club had the privilege of welcoming the North West Air Ambulance Charity to our breakfast meeting, and it's fair to say the morning left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

A Service Like No Other

The North West Air Ambulance operates across the entire North West of England, responding to some of the most serious and time-critical emergencies imaginable, from road traffic collisions and cardiac arrests to falls from height and sporting accidents. When minutes or even seconds can mean the difference between life and death, the air ambulance bridges the gap that a road ambulance simply cannot.

Their highly skilled crews, made up of specialist doctors and paramedics, bring the expertise of a hospital emergency department directly to the scene. For patients in remote locations or caught in heavy traffic, that can make all the difference in the world.

Did you know that they are Funded Entirely by Public Generosity

Perhaps the most striking thing we learned over breakfast was that the North West Air Ambulance receives absolutely no government funding. Every single mission is made possible entirely through the generosity of the public and organisations like ours.

It costs millions of pounds each year to keep the helicopters in the air and the crews on the ground, and that funding has to be raised from scratch, year after year. It is a remarkable testament to the communities of the North West that this vital service continues to thrive but it can never be taken for granted.

As a club, we left that morning feeling both humbled and inspired and more committed than ever to supporting this extraordinary charity.
