Creating Lasting Impact in Vero Beach
One of the most rewarding aspects of being part of Rotary is the connections it creates, not just locally but across the world. We are proud to share that the City of Liverpool Rotary Club and District 1180 are part of a wonderful international project in Vero Beach, Florida, that beautifully captures the spirit of Rotary service. Impact comes in many forms. Sometimes it is as profound as digging a well in a remote part of the world to bring clean water to a community thousands of miles away. Sometimes it is as close to home as creating a welcoming space where people can come together, connect, enjoy a community space together and feel a little less alone.
A Rich History
The story begins back in 1931, when the Rotary Club of Vero Beach constructed an original fountain in Pocahontas Park, crafted from coquina rock and dedicated to Dr. Charles H. Pettibone, a retired minister and the club's first president. It was a simple but meaningful gesture of community service that set the tone for decades to come.
In 2005, to mark the 100th anniversary of Rotary International, five Rotary Clubs of Indian River County came together to build a new Centennial Fountain, reviving that original spirit of community and celebration. Over time however, the fountain fell into disrepair, and in March 2025 the now six local Rotary Clubs formed a committee to explore the options for its future.
Rotary Corner is Born
After careful consideration, the decision was made to rename and repurpose the structure, creating what is now known as Rotary Corner. A beautifully landscaped space featuring native and seasonal plants, trees and lighting, Rotary Corner has become a visually appealing focal point that has genuinely transformed the look and feel of the corner of 14th Avenue and 21st Street. It is a space the whole community can enjoy for years to come.
We are very proud to have played our part in this international project by having a paver engraved to support the creation and ongoing keep of Rotary Corner. This is a wonderful example of Rotary's ability to bring people and communities together across borders in the pursuit of something lasting and meaningful. It truly reflects this year's theme of Create Lasting Impact in the most tangible way possible.
