Come and join us at our next Speaker Evening on 10 September
An Evening with Dominic Wilkinson — Hilbre Islands as Creative Laboratories
We are delighted to invite you to join us for a fascinating evening on Wednesday 10 September, 6.30pm to 8.30pm, as the City of Liverpool Rotary Club welcomes award-winning architect, urban designer and Principal Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, Dominic Wilkinson.
The evening begins with a delicious scouse supper, before Dominic takes us on an illustrated journey through one of the most unique and challenging restoration projects in the region.
Bringing Hilbre Island Back to Life
Hilbre Islands is a place like no other. A Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Ramsar site and a nature reserve, it sits at the mercy of the weather and tides, isolated and largely untouched. Its derelict buildings have stood empty for years, but a remarkable long-term project is now underway to restore them and bring them back into use as a Centre for Art, Science and Sustainability.
Dominic will chart the first five years of this ambitious, externally funded project, sharing the challenges, the creative solutions and the vision behind turning these heritage structures into something truly special. With no energy, water or waste infrastructure, and strict environmental protections in place, every decision requires imagination, ingenuity and care.
It promises to be a thought-provoking and inspiring evening, and one not to be missed.
